Ahmed je star 13 let in predano sledi ekstremnim prepričanjem imama radikalne muslimanske skupnosti v manjšem belgijskem kraju. Še nedolgo nazaj je bil povsem običajen najstnik, zdaj pa se pod močnimi vplivi verskega voditelja ne želi več rokovati z učiteljico, mamo in sestro pa obtožuje nespodobnega vedenja. Njegov odnos do »nečistosti« se vedno bolj zaostruje, vse do poskusa umora učiteljice, ki arabščino poučuje s pomočjo »grešnih« popularnih pesmi. Vsi okoli njega poskušajo brzdati njegova skrajna čustva: mama, brat, učiteljica, psihologinja, socialni delavci, odvetnik in sodnik. Njegova prepričanja z ljubezenskimi skušnjavami zamaje tudi simpatično dekle Louise. Kako daleč bo mladega Ahmeda prignal njegov boj?
