Film po literarni predlogi Ilija Trojanova, je zgodba o Aleksu, vnuku karizmatičnega Bai Dana, ki se z dedovo pomočjo odpravi na popotovanje, natančneje iskanje samega sebe. V otroštvu je mladi Aleks s starši emigriral v Nemčijo, sedaj pa se po dolgih letih spet skupaj namenijo v Bolgarijo. A družina doživi prometno nesrečo, v kateri Aleksova starša izgubita življenje, on pa pristane v bolnišnici. Aleks ne spozna dedka, saj je izgubil spomin. Bai Dan ga zvleče iz bolnišnice in odrineta v Bolgarijo, na potovanje v preteklost, med katerim se Aleksu povrne spomin in z njim tudi volja do življenja.
