Edward Cole je milijarder, ki je zbolel za rakom in trenutno prebiva v bolnišnici. Sobo si deli z mehanikom Carterjem Chambersom, s katerim na prvi pogled nimata prav nič skupnega, razen dejstva, da sta oba hudo bolna.
