Ryūji Takasu je prijazen srednješolec, ki obožuje gospodinjska opravila; A v nasprotju z njegovo prijazno naravo ima zastrašujoč obraz, zaradi katerega ga pogosto označijo za prekrška. Po drugi strani pa je Taiga Aisaka, majhna, lutkasta učenka, ki ni prav nič prikupna in krhka deklica. Opremljen z lesenim katano in borbeno osebnostjo, je Taiga po šoli znan kot "Palmtop Tiger". Nekega dne se zaradi nerodne napake srečata oba učenca. Ryūji odkrije, da ima Taiga pravzaprav tudi prijazno plat: zaljubljena je v priljubljenega podpredsednika Yūsakuja Kitamuro, ki je njegov najboljši prijatelj. A stvari postanejo še bolj nore, ko Ryūji razkrije, da je zaljubljen v Minori Kushiedo — Taigino najboljšo prijateljico! Toradora! je romantična komedija, ki spremlja to nenavadno dvojico, ki se podata na potovanje, da si pomagata pri svojih simpatijah, pri čemer oblikujeta nepričakovano zavezništvo.
