Година је 1930. Немачку потресају политички немири, економија доживљава крах, а милиони незапослених штрајкују на улицама Берлина. У том хаосу живи и ради америчка плесачица Сали, која наступа у култном клубу "Кит-Кет", где је на позорници све дозвољено. Док у граду буја нацизам и насиље, свезнајући и свеприсутни клупски организатор покушава да унесе срећу, весеље и мало декаденције у свакодневицу својих суграђана. Сали у клубу упознаје многе занимљиве личности: богатог немачког политичара, енглеског учитеља из Лондона и Брајана, бисексуалног младића јеврејског порекла, који се бори с питањем свог идентитета. Она се заљубљује у њега, а обоје их заводи богати плејбој Макс.
