За време нацистичке окупације Пољске у Другом светском рату, Јакоб (Робин Вилијамс), власник давно затвореног кафића у јеврејском гету, случајно начује забрањене радијске вести о напредовању совјетских војних снага. Јакоб подели своје сазнање са својим пријатељима, који почињу ширити вести даље. Увидевши како је ширење те вести узроковало боље расположење и буђење оптимизма међу његовим сународницима, Јакоб почиње измишљати позитивне вести те тиме одржавати морал код својих људи.
