Нашавши се на пустом острву после претрпљеног бродолома, усамљени човек се бори да нађе своје место у том новом свету. На острву не недостаје извора за преживљавање, али су они фрустрирајуће недостижни. Опасност вреба из најмањих пукотина, свака изолована пећина је и потенцијални гроб. Човек паметно користи шумско богатство да изгради сплав, али сваки његов покушај бекства спречава огромна корњача која као да жели да га примора да остане. Обузет бесом, он напада корњачу с намером да је убије. Оно што се даље дешава почетак је новог поглавља у животу овог човека, које ће га научити дружењу и довести до сазнања да природа мора да иде својим током.
