Гејл Хартман (Мерил Стрип) је супруга и мајка која кад год може препушта се својој пасији - веслању. Упознају и нове пријатеље Вејда, љубитеља река, и његовог сапутника Терија, а новостечено пријатељство ће се продубити када Том спасе Вејда од дављења. Но чини се да ствари нису једноставне и складне како им се испрва чинило. Њихови нови пријатељи нису дошли на одмор, већ су у бегу од полиције и ускоро ће показати своје право лице. Присилиће Харманове да остану са њима и помогну им да савладају реку која постаје све више дивља.
