Радња се заснива на борби за самосталну Баскију. Живот Битори и њене породице потпуно се мења оног дана када ЕТА убије њеног супруга Ткатоа на прагу њихове куће. С везама које су раскинуте са породицом њене пријатељице Мирен, чији је син члан терористичке групе, сви ће морати да се суоче са тугом и моралним контрадикцијама, док живот наставља својим током. Дугогодишње пријатељство две породице стављено је пред искушење када село почну да раздиру политичка и идеолошка размимоилажења: наклоност између пријатељица тада прераста у мржњу, чије ће последице породице трпети деценијама касније.
