Oceanerna – den okända värld som är början på allt liv visas för första gången upp i all sin skönhet, och rikedom, sin grymhet och sin förkrossande kraft. Under sammanlagt sex år genomfördes inte mindre än 70 expeditioner på 50 olika platser i världen – alla under havsytan. 12 produktionsteam filmade över 100 olika djurarter, i situationer och miljöer det tidigare inte varit möjligt att filma. Man fick helt enkelt uppfinna ny teknik och avancerad utrustning för att lyckas fånga det omöjliga på bioduken.
