1943 reser Carson Shaw till Chicago för att provspela för Amerikanska baseballigan för kvinnor. Där möter hon andra kvinnor som också drömmer om att få spela proffsbaseball och få kontakter som öppnar världen för dem. Max Chapman från Rockford kommer också till provspelet men avvisas. Med stöd av sina bästa väninna Clance måste hon hitta en ny väg för att följa sin dröm.
