Berättelsen utspelar sig i det tionde året av det första Cylon kriget, och följer William Adama, när han var en ung pilot, med anropsnamnet " Husker " . Som nyutexaminerad, tilldelas han en plats i den koloniala flottan: Galactica. Han beordras att eskortera en ung kvinna, som så småningom visar sig ha viktig information som bär på stor betydelse för en viss Cylon hemlighet.
