Den ivrige bokmalen och högskolestudenten Motosu Urano dör i en oförutsedd olycka. Detta kom direkt efter nyheten att hon äntligen skulle kunna arbeta som bibliotekarie, som hon alltid drömt om. När hon återfick medvetandet återföddes hon som Main, dotter till en fattig soldat. Hon befann sig i staden Ehrenfest, som hade ett hårt klassystem. Men så länge hon hade böcker behövde hon egentligen inget annat. Böcker var dock sällsynta och tillhörde endast adeln. Men det stoppar henne inte, så hon fattar ett beslut... "Om det inte finns några böcker, skapar jag bara några."
