Paranın su gibi aktığı lüks bir hayat süren Gatsby'nin dünyasına girdikçe, bu zengin adamın nasıl bir takıntı ve trajedi içerisinde odluğuna da tanıklık edecektir. Yönetmenliğini Jack Clayton'un üstlendiği filmin senaryosunu F. Scott Fitzgerald'ın romanından uyarlayan isim ise ünlü sinemacı Francis Ford Coppola İki Oscar heykelciği olan filmin başrolünde Robert Redford yer alırken kadroda kendisine Mia Farrow ve Bruce Dern eşlik ediyor.
