Uruguaylı bir rugby takımının oyuncuları bulunan uçak And dağlarına çakılır. Bu çarpışma esnasında yolcuların bir kısmı ölür ama çoğunluğu da sağ olarak kurtulur. Sekiz gün boyunca uçağın enkazında oturup kurtarılmayı beklerler. Ancak yardım bir türlü gelmez. Bu arada radyodan da arama çabalarının sonuç vermemesi ve çok soğuk ortamda bu kadar zaman yaşamalarının artık söz konusu olamayacağı üzerine arama çalışmalarına son verildiğini duyarlar. Sıfırın altındaki soğuk bir ortamda on hafta boyunca hayatta kalma çabaları inanılmaz boyutlara ulaşır ve sonunda gençlerden üçü yardım bulmak amacıyla yola çıkarlar.
