1941 yılının karanlık bir gecesinde köyün delisi Shlomo, yeri yerinden oynatacak bir haberle köye gelir. Tüm komşu köylerdeki Yahudiler, Almanlar tarafından öldürülmüşlerdir. Kalanların ise akıbetleri belli değildir. Şimdi ise sıra yaşadıkları köydedir. Aynı gece Rabbi'nin önderliğinde toplanan bilge kişiler, köy halkını kurtaracak en iyi yöntemi bulmak için düşünmeye başlarlar. Yine en iyi fikir Shlomo'dan gelir. Nazileri kandıracak bir tren kuracaklar, bir kısmı trendeki Nazi subaylarını oynarken bir kısmı da sürülen Yahudileri canlandıracaklardır, hatta trenin makinistleri bile köylüler olacaktır.
