Patrick McGrath’ın aynı isimli romanından uyarladığı Spider, Cronenberg yönetmenliğinde ağır ve Kafkaesk bir atmosfer sunuyor. Film Oedipus Kompleksi, varoluşsal sorunlar ve aklın sınırları hakkında birçok detay verirken, aynı zamanda erkeklik psikolojisinin yıkılışına dair gizemli bir yolculuğa çıkarıyor. Başkalaşan insan figürüne sadık kalan Cronenberg, özellikle Ralph Fiennes’in huzursuz performansının yardımıyla başarılı bir karakter çözümlemesine imza atıyor.
