Astronot John Crichton kendi geliştirdiği bir teoriyi test etmek için küçük bir uzay mekiğiyle gökyüzüne çıkar. Deney sırasında rastlantılar sonucu karşısında beliren bir Worm Hole (solucan delikleri) sayesinde binlerce galaksi ötede belirir. Solucan delikleri uzayda bir taraftan bir tarafa açılan kapılardır.
Kendisini küçük bir uzay savaşının ortasında bulur. Bu esnada üç mahkum, savaşan taraflardan biri olan Peacekeeper’lardan Moya adlı biyomekanik bir uzay gemisiyle, yani yaşayan bir uzay gemisiyle kaçmaya çalışıyorlardır.
