Polisiye ve gizem türündeki Cardinal dizisi, Dedektif John Cardinal ve onun yeni ortağı Lisa Derome'un, suçlular ile olan mücadelesine odaklanıyor. Altı bölümlük planlanan mini dizi, yazar Giles Blunt'ın 8 kitaplık John Cardinal serisinin 2000 yılında çıkan ilk kitabı Forty Words For Sorrow'a dayanıyor. Dizinin yazarı ise Orphan Black ve Saving Hope gibi yine Kanada çıkışlı dizilerin mutfağında bulunmuş olan Aubrey Nealon.
Mekan olarak Kanada'nın soğuk karlarla kaplı sakin bir kasabasını seçmesiyle, biraz Fortitude ve biraz da Broadchurch havasını aldığımız dizi bir seri katil hikayesini merkezine alıyor. Cardinal, Kate Pine adında 13 yaşında bir kızın, terk edilmiş bir madende buzlarla kaplı cesedinin bulunması ile başlıyor. Bu cinayetin arkasındaki sır perdesi aralandıkça eklenen yeni olaylar ve karanlık köşeler davanın kapsamının genişlemesine neden oluyor.
