Nazityskland, 1943. Krigen er i fuld gang, og en lille flok universitetsstuderende, der kalder sig 'Hvide Rose', bekæmper med al magt Det tredie Rige. Den eneste kvinde i gruppen er Sophie Scholl. Da hun og hendes bror uddeler flyveblade nær universitetet i München går det galt. Da Gestapo får fingre i dem, begynder en krævende afhøring, hvor Sophies idealer bliver sat på en alvorlig prøve.
