Tvillingesøstrene Solange og Delphine, hhv. danse- og klaverlærer, bor ved kysten i Rochefort, men længes efter livet i storbyen Paris. Da en trup markedsgøglere rykker ind på torvet en weekend, øjner pigerne en chance for at få et lift. Truppens kække unge ledere sukker dybt efter pigerne, og det samme gør en matros med kunstnerisk talent og en amerikansk komponist på visit hos en gammel ven i byen.
