Detective Joe Miller befinder sig i en sag, hvor to mænd er fundet brændt ihjel i en bonde butik, som tilsyneladende involverer en mystisk nøgle og en aftale der er gået dårligt. Efter at have modtaget nøglen, opdager Joe, at det blot er en af næsten hundrede objekter med overnaturlige kræfter og et link til et skjult motel værelse. Detective Joe Miller og Wiesel forsøge at få uret fra objektopkøberen Karl Reutzfeld hænder. Joe bliver anklaget for sin partners mord.
