سه دهه پس از جنگ بزرگ بین انسان ها و زنترادی، دولت سازمان ملل در حال توسعه فناوری های جدیدی برای استفاده در هواپیماهای جنگنده تبدیل شونده خود با انجام آزمایش هایی در سیاره مستعمره ای عدن است. خلبانان آزمایشی نظامی و دوستان دوران کودکی سابق، ایسامو آلوا دایسون که توپ آزاد بود و گلد گوا بومن از نژاد مختلط زنترادی، هر کدام برای خلبانی یک هواپیمای جدید (YF-19 شرکت شینسی و YF-21 شرکت جنرال گلکسی) برای پروژه سوپر نوا انتخاب می شوند تا جدیدترین جانشین جنگنده متغیر VF-11 Thunderbolt را که هنوز توسط نیروهای نظامی سازمان ملل استفاده می شود، انتخاب کنند. کینه های شخصی خودشان در نهایت آزمون ها را مختل می کند و برنامه را به هم می ریزد.
