Vain puoliksi raidallisena syntynyt seepravarsa Kumba aiheuttaa laumassaan suuren suurta ihmetystä ja kummastusta erilaisen ulkonäkönsä vuoksi. Samanaikaisesti kotisavannille iskee ennennäkemätön kuivuusaalto, juomavesi alkaa loppumaan ja joukon taikauskoiset pahikset keksivät vierittää syyn poloisen Kumban niskaan. Ansaitakseen raitansa, päättää peloton Kumba koota ystäväjoukkonsa ja lähteä jännittävälle matkalle etsimään tarunhohtoista keidasta, jossa sinisen veden virta ei lopu koskaan. Erikoinen joukko kohtaa matkan varrella jos jonkinlaisia sattumuksia sekä mitä ihmeellisimpiä ja pelottavimpia savannin asukkaita.
