Lenkija tarp dviejų tarpusavyje bekovojančių ugnių susitinka ant tilto. O po to viena kovojanti pusė sutaria su kita, kaip pasidalins paimtus į nelaisvę lenkų karininkus, šalies pasididžiavimą. Katynės miške 1940-aisiais buvo nužudytas ir Andrzejaus Wajdos tėvas Jakubas bei kai kurių kitų filmo kūrėjų artimieji. Bet nominuotas „Oscarui“ lenkų metro filmas kalba ne vien apie ilgai slėptas lenkų karininkų žudynes prie Smolensko, kurias įvykdė rusų NKVD. Tai drauge ir filmas apie vienos šeimos tragediją, keleto giminių giminės išgyventus košmarus, apie neatsakomą klausimą, ar reikėjo kovoti, ar susitaikyti ir saugoti naciją, – o drauge ir apie tai, kad Katynės tragedija nesibaigė nei tomis dienomis, nei tais metais.
