Kaede Honjou dijemput oleh rakannya Risa Shiramine untuk bermain permainan MMO realiti maya dengannya. Walaupun Kaede tidak suka permainan, apa yang dia benar-benar tidak suka ialah mengalami kesakitan. Dia mencipta watak bernama Maple, dan memutuskan untuk meletakkan semua matanya dalam VIT untuk meminimumkan kesakitan. Akibatnya, dia bergerak perlahan, tidak boleh menggunakan sihir, malah arnab boleh mendapatkan yang terbaik daripadanya. Tetapi ternyata, dia memperoleh kemahiran yang dikenali sebagai "Pertahanan Mutlak" hasil daripada mata pamnya ke dalam VIT, serta "Kemahiran Kaunter" yang berfungsi terhadap gerakan khas. Kini, dengan keupayaannya untuk membatalkan semua kerosakan, dia meneruskan pengembaraan.
