Când corpul unui bărbat este găsit complet distrus în mlaștinile din Louisiana, investigatorul Sam Rivers este însărcinat cu anchetarea crimei. El călătorește împreună cu biologul Mary Callahan la locul în care locuia victima, o casă plutitoare, unde se întâlnește cu familia și prietenii victimei. Ei află că o specie de pești chinezești a fost modificată genetic de către un vânător bogat și că aceasta este responsabil de atacurile și crimele din zona.
