Trochu nešikovná, trošku hlúpa stredoškoláčka Tsukino Usagi jedného dňa zachráni život čiernej mačke a tá jej na oplátku oznámi, že Usagi je reinkarnáciou jednej zo strážkyň Solárneho systému - Sailor Moon. A pretože zlo chce zničiť krajinu a pretože čierna mačka má presvedčivé donucovacie metódy, sa musí Usagi premieňať do svojej hrdinskej superpodoby, aby chránila svet proti zlej kráľovnej Beryl a jej temným poskokom.
