Пинк Пантер је поновно украден из Лугаша па власт зове легендарног француског инспектора Клузоа да улови крадљивца и врати непроцењиви дијамант. Клузо се укрцава на авион према Лугашу, али тамо никада не стиже. Наиме, авион нестане, а позната француска новинарка Марие Жавет даје се у потрагу за инспектором. Интервјуише све који су били у вези с Клузом и који би могли да пруже информације о његовом тајанственом нестанку. Марие посећује Драјфуса, Сер Чарлса Литона, бившу Клузову супругу Ладy Симоне, која је сада с Чарлсом, Херкула Лајоа, Чатоа, а на крају је и отме мафијаш Бруно Ланглоис, који не жели да Клузо икада буде пронађен.
